I was born and raised in a Japanese castle town, and I still live within sight of the castle. I even went to school right beside its moat. In recent years, more and more visitors from overseas have come to enjoy Japanese culture, and it makes me smile to see them having such a good time. I hope this site can be a small help to anyone who wants to enrich their life through Japanese culture.
That’s why I started Japan Underrated.
Japan has a lot of great food, drink, and everyday products that rarely get a fair comparison in English. When I looked, most guides were thin, outdated, or written by people who had never tried the product. This site is my attempt to fix that.

How I review
- If I’ve used something myself, I say so and share what I liked and what I didn’t.
- If I haven’t, I tell you it’s based on research, not hands-on use.
- I update articles when prices, plans, or availability change.
